Every single work I have looked at was discounted. All seven, on the same day.

I checked seven works over four days. Every one of them was on sale. Not a seasonal event, not a coordinated campaign, just the ordinary state of the shop.

Here is what the badges said:

If you are outside Japan and doing sums in your head, this matters more to you than it does to a Japanese buyer, because you are probably also converting currency and deciding whether the shipping-free digital thing is worth the hassle of the account. Working from the list price makes everything look 30 to 50 percent more expensive than it is.

The pattern is age, not quality

The 90% off work is from 2015. The 20% off work came out in September 2025.

¥770 list. It has been on the shelf for eleven years, has nearly eighteen thousand buyers, and on the day I looked it was going for a tenth of the sticker price. That is not a clearance of something nobody wanted. It has more buyers than four of the newer works I have measured.

Compare the newest thing I have looked at, released September 2025, which was at 20%. Same shop, same category, five times the discount gap, and the only obvious variable is how long it has been sitting there.

What that means practically

Never buy the day you find it. You are almost certainly looking at something that will be cheaper within weeks, and there is no rush, because a digital file does not sell out.

Older is cheaper, and older is not worse. The back catalogue on this shop goes back well over a decade and the discounting is steepest there. A 2015 work with eighteen thousand buyers has been continuously chosen by people for eleven years. A 2025 work with a big number has been chosen for eleven months. Those are not the same signal, and the older one is the one that gets discounted.

The cheap end is properly cheap. One of the works I measured is ¥55 at list, and was at half that when I looked.

Twenty-eight yen, for something with fifty-seven thousand buyers and seventeen thousand ratings. At that price the question is not whether it is worth the money.

What I cannot tell you

How the discounts are scheduled. I have looked at seven works on four different days, which is not enough to say whether a given work rotates through sales weekly, monthly, or at random. Anyone who tells you they know the cycle on a shop this size is guessing.

What I would say is that the absence of a discount is the unusual state. Across seven works I did not see a single one at full price, and I was not choosing for that.

Something I would like to check and have not: whether the works with no free trial attached are discounted harder to compensate. It would make sense, since buying one is a bigger gamble. Two of the works I have looked at fall into that category and both were discounted, but two is not evidence of anything.
